Confirmation

Confirmation is the Sacrament that completes baptism.  In it the gift of the Holy Spirit is bestowed on you. You become a full-fledged, responsible member of the Catholic Church.

The seven gifts of the Holy Spirit are: wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord (awe or wonder).

The Fruit of the Holy Spirit are nine attributes of a Christian according to Paul the Apostle in his Letter to the Galatians: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.”

In the preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation, we use and study the YouCat syllabus.

If you wish to be Confirmed in our faith, you should:

  • Be in Year 8 or older
  • Think about the consequences of making this commitment for your future
  • Study current affairs and how the church and your role in the church can relate to them and help things change, if necessary
  • Contact Fr David to join the preparation group
  • Think about which saint’s name you would like to take for your own, by getting to know about his or her life and why you want to emulate him or her
