The present church and shrine of St. Etheldreda is a vibrant community that has been in the heart of the historic city of Ely since 1903. The parish is led by Father David, who is supported by the Father John, a retired priest who lives in Ely.

Fr David Finegan
Born and raised in Ireland, Fr David was ordained on 9th June 1985. Before being appointed Parish Priest of St Etheldreda’s in 2019, Fr David has served a number of parishes throughout the Diocese of East Anglia.

Fr John Ablewhite
The parish is very fortunate in having Fr John, a retired priest living in our parish, who says Mass regularly to support Fr David . Originally a teacher, Fr John was ordained a Church of England priest in 1984.  He converted to Catholicism in 1999 and was ordained a Deacon and Priest in 2000.
